Ancient Near East

Stele of Naram-Sin, Sippar. c. 2254-2218 BCE.

Carved Vessel, from Uruk. c. 3300-3000 BCE.

Stele of Hammurabi, from Susa. c. 1792-1750 BCE.

Human-Headed Winged Lion (Lamassus), from the palace of Assurnasirpal II, Nimrud (Iraq). 883-859 BCE.

I am fascinated by not only the formal qualities of these works, but also with how these works operate as political propaganda.
